I went to the second ever Fare Healthy event on Sunday, September 27th. This event is exactly what the name suggests; a healthy fare involving 1,500 people all gathered in Borough Market to enjoy a day filled with workouts, healthy food stands, cooking demos, nutrition and lifestyle talks, book signings and activewear shopping.
My friend Nora and I kickstarted the day with a killer Skinny Bitch Collective workout. This was more than just a workout to be honest, it was an experience. Upon arriving at the square in Borough Market at 9am, we were told to down these shots pre-workout. They were an interesting mix of raw coconut water, aloe vera, lime, L-carnitine and coconut charcoal.
We then each got a resistance band to put around our legs, to add more intensity to the squat based exercises that formed a predominant part of the workout. The class was very empowering, with all the girls formed in a circle, holding hands in the air and performing a variety of plyometric moves, such as squat jumps.
It’s definitely one of the best high intensity workouts I’ve ever done, as it incorporates animalistic moves that you would never usually try and consequently push you completely out of your comfort zone. This particular class even included blinded twisting burpees!
We then attended a demo by Hen’s Clean Cakes on how to decorate her delicious gluten, dairy and refined sugar free cakes. Admittedly the best part was getting to eat her amazing creations!
After this it was time to do some shopping! I treated myself to a variety of items, namely nut butters thanks to Pip and Nut and Planet Organic stalls, who stock one of my all my time favourite nut butters- Organic Coconut and Almond Butter. I also got a comfy over-sized jumper from SeaSoul and Snow.
Next it was time to listen to the beautiful and inspirational Hemsley and Hemsley sisters, whose cookbook I have been inspired by over the last few months. They have such a wonderful and holistic view to healthy eating that I can really relate to so it was a pleasure getting to learn more from them and how they turned their passion into a career.
We then enjoyed some delicious acai bowls from The Good Life Eatery‘s stall. They not only tasted incredible but they also acted as the perfect pre-workout fuel for the dance workout we then did courtesy of FRAME studios.
Although dancing is one of my favourite ways to exercise, I often struggle to find classes that I really like but this class by FRAME certainly didn’t disappoint. The instructor was lovely and super energetic, the music was perfect (Crazy in Love by Beyonce) and the atmosphere in the class was incredible. I’ll definitely be going to their studios in the future!
All in all it was the perfect day filled with all of my favourite activities! Fare Healthy only happens once or twice a year, but if you’re ever around for one I highly recommend it.
